ALIR Surface

Since 2012, LLOT LLOV has been developing innovative surface treatments for wood. Building on the Wooden Aquarelle technique – a fluid interplay of water-soluble pigments developed by designer Meike Harde -LLOT LLOV has evolved the process into a new design language: ALIR, a dynamic, self-organizing color gradient that turns wood into a fluid canvas.

ALIR is based on a principle of controlled randomness. Liquid pigments are applied in controlled, pressure-driven impulses, disturbing the wood’s natural flow as the color diffuses through water and fiber. Only this initial impulse can be steered – everything that follows unfolds on its own. The result is soft transitions and translucent layers, shaped by natural movement rather than a repeatable pattern. This makes every handcrafted panel a one-of-a-kind piece.

The inaugural pattern of the ALIR series is named Current. It combines golden-yellow with deep, earthy brown: the dark pigment flows into the yellow like a tail caught in a stream, shifting from brown at the base to gold at the top – one continuous, fluid gradient across the panel.

Crafted entirely by hand, ALIR wood panels serve as a premium, dynamic base material – suited for custom furniture, architectural wall cladding, and statement interior design elements.

The TILO Seat makes this surface tangible. Built from straightforward, intersecting wooden planes with an architectural silhouette and an extended armrest as its most distinctive element, the chair is a study in contrast: a rigorous, geometric structure carrying a soft, fluid finish.
