At the heart of the Museum of Communication in Berlin is the W66 restaurant—a place where history, architecture, and contemporary design elegantly merge. The building, constructed between 1871 and 1874 as the General Post Office, is itself a piece of communication history. Today, W66 offers museum visitors and surrounding employees a sophisticated location for lunch and a relaxing coffee break.
For Christian Wilke, operator of W66 and Wild & Wiese, the key to the interior design was to develop a clear, understated design language that respectfully reflects the existing building structure. He commissioned Berlin-based design studio LLOT LLOV with the design. Together, they created a design that preserves the existing structure and precisely complements it with new elements.
The atmosphere at W66 is light and open—a place that responds flexibly to different usage scenarios. The design by LLOT LLOV follows the idea of creating a calm, inviting environment that remains functional and adaptable. Materials and colors reflect the architecture of the museum: stainless steel meets linen, sage meets oak, beige meets sunny yellow – a subtle palette of materials that combines modernity and warmth.
